Boys Varsity Soccer - HMHS

Coach Thomas "Chip" Dickson Remembered

Thomas "Chip" Dickson passed away on February 28th, 2016 after a brave battle with ALS. He remained graceful throughout and was surrounded by family and friends in his final days. He was still teaching life lessons, talking soccer and sharing his passion for others right up to the end. Chip Dickson is survived by many, including his wife, Becky Malcarney-Dickson and his children: Thomas "TD" Dickson, twin daughters Natalie & Allegra Dickson and Joseph Malcarney.

Chip Dickson was involved with the Haddonfield Soccer Club for many years as a coach, parent, board member and volunteer. His son TD Dickson was a member of the Haddonfield Chili Peppers, the first of what became an impressive number of highly-successful HSC teams in the years that followed. This team was notable for a number of reasons, including one of its' coaches, Alan Carr. Both Alan Carr's and Chip Dickson's first wife, Gloria Dickson both passed away after battling cancer while the players were young.

In the years that followed, Chip focused his attention on raising his children and later married Becky Malcarney and their wonderful family grew even larger. All four of the children played their entire travel soccer careers for HSC and three of them won state championships playing varsity soccer at HMHS.

Chip was a familiar face at all of the town soccer fields, most notably Crows Woods & Scout Field. He coached for both HSC & HMHS, spent countless hours helping to prepare and maintain the fields and was active as a member of the soccer board and the HSC player development committee. Chip was well-respected and beloved by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. He was renowned for his positive attitude, compassion for others and certainly for his life-long love of soccer. Chip was also a soccer player dating back to his youth through his time at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY.

On behalf of HMHS Boys Soccer, we would like to express our deepest condolences to Coach Dickson's family.  He will be sorely missed at HMHS as a friend, mentor, and coach.
