September Practice/Meet Schedule

September Practice Schedule

This website will be updated weekly with the team's practice schedules.  We will have a combination of practices at the high school and middle school, with most practices occurring at the middle school location. 

Week of 9/5:

Thu 9/5

HMS 12:15-12:30 HMS Gym

Interest Meeting @ 12:15pm in the HMS gym.

This meeting will be brief (15 minutes) to make announcements about the team and pass out team handouts.  If your child cannot make the meeting, the information provided will mirror what is shared here on this website and they may receive a handout at practice next week.

This meeting is a second opportunity for students to hear announcements about the team and receive a handout for those who may have missed yesterday's meeting.

HMS 3:00-3:45

Practice @ HMS.

Team members meet in the HMS gym for all practices @ HMS. Students will sign in there with the coaches and will leave backpacks in the gym – the team will use streets surrounding the middle school for practice.

Practice @ HMS for 7th/8th grade only.

NO PRACTICE FOR 6TH GRADE TODAY.

HMHS 3:30-4:30

Practice @ HMHS. Team members meet at the HMHS courtyard for all practices @ HMHS.  Many students change in the HMS locker rooms and walk together to HMHS. Students will sign in @ HMHS courtyard with the coaches and leave backpacks in the courtyard - the team will use Pennypacker Park for practice. Today, we will be showing the team the Pennypacker course, which they will be racing on Tuesday.  (For those who cannot attend, CLICK HERE for a map of the course) 

 

Week of 9/16:

IMPORTANT NOTES: All students who are on the roster as of 9/15 were submitted for Tuesday 9/17's race!  We look forward to seeing everyone race! Please look at the notes on the schedule carefully for race-time procedures. Parents - if you ordered a team uniform, they did not yet arrive (we haven't gotten a ship date, but we anticipate them any day!), so please have your child wear Haddonfield gear/colors.  Also, please look carefully at the schedule - now that our roster has hit 160 team members, we will be utilizing grade level practice more frequently than anticipated.

Mon. 9/16

HMHS 3:30-4:30

Practice @ HMHS. Team members meet at the HMHS courtyard for all practices @ HMHS.  Many students change in the HMS locker rooms and walk together to HMHS. Students will meet the coaches/sign in @ HMHS Flagpole. Today, we will be showing the team the Pennypacker course, which they will be racing on Tuesday.  (For those who cannot attend, CLICK HERE for a map of the course) NOTE: Students will be dismissed at 4:30 from the high school flagpole.  They may not be picked up from the park system or walk home from our park system location from today's practice. Thank you for understanding!

Tue. 9/17

Home Meet @ Pennypacker Park (meet start time 4:45, team should arrive @ 4:00)

Meet @ Pennypacker Park.  Students meet us at the park system on meet days. Students should arrive at Pennypacker Park picnic table area (Near the baseball field/small parking lot in the park) and meet the coaches at 4:00 to receive race number and warm up.  Students should wear their black xc t-shirt and bring water.  The race  start time is approximately 4:45, after the high school races finish.  At that time, the race starters will determine whether boys and girls race together or separately, based on numbers. (Parents - Please see the note about parking in the home meet general information below. Due to the parking lot being closed off prior to 4:00 for the high school races and the number of people in attendance, we recommend parking in the Hopkins Pond/Bancroft lots and walking down.)

We are encouraging students to view the results from home and write down their time. This is a great starting point for the season to watch yourself grow! Also, take note of team members who finished around you because they will become training partners at future practices! 

Results from today's meet will be used to determine team members who qualified for the 9/28 Six Flags Meet.  Details and names will be shared with the students by the end of the week.

About the 2019 HMS XC Season

About the 2019 Season:

Program philosophy The middle school cross country program exposes the team members to distance training and racing at the 1.5 mile distance. Students of all ability levels and experience are welcome to become part of the program. They will be challenged to steadily progress in their training and improve in their performances.  We do not expect athletes to train prior to the season, but since many team members have asked how to best prepare, we have an optional summer training plan available here for guidance:  https://tinyurl.com/HMSXCSummer2018  (this is last year's link, but no changes were made, other than calendar dates)

 

Communication Updates will also be provided here on the "team news" tab on this website. Please follow us on twitter for updates, as well: @HMSTrackXC  All team members and parents are asked to follow the Remind account (formerly known as Remind101).- directions are below. We will text the schedule weekly and any reminders or announcements, as needed. 

 

Remind Account Sign Up: Sign up for text message updates to be texted directly to you from the coaches by texting the number 81010 with the message @hmstrackxc or go to https://remind.com/join/hmstrackxc for updates.  (NOTE: The Remind account is currently down and we are working on obtaining a paid account to get it back up and running! In the meantime, check this site and twitter!)

 

Permission and Medical Packet is due to the nurse's office before practicing with the team (please see additional details at the bottom of this note regarding required medical paperwork and online registration).  Newcomers are always welcome to join the team anytime during the season, but please understand that after the start of the season we need to allow for processing time for the team nurse and team doctor to clear the student to practice.

**Please note that Impact Concussion Testing is NOT required for the middle school team**

 

Preparing for the Season: Training before the season is not expected for the team; most team members are new to running at the first practice. As an option for those who have asked how to prepare themselves for the season, this schedule is being provided that offers three levels for athletes to work with the goal of increasing mileage/time spent running. (linked above)

 

PracticesWeekly schedules will be posted on the e-board.  We will have a combination of practices at the middle school and the high school. 

> For HMS practices, students meet in the middle school gym and practices will be held from 3:00-3:45. For HMHS practices, students meet at (and may be picked up at) the flag pole area at the Kings Highway main entrance from 3:30-4:30.

>We will have our initial team meeting at 2:50 on TBD in the HMS gym.  

*Our first practice will be TBD in the middle school gym.

 

Home Meets- Team members meet at Pennypacker Park picnic table area (near the baseball field/small parking lot in the park) at 4:00.  Middle school boys and girls races will follow the high school races and will begin at approximately 4:45-5:00.  The  middle school course is 1.5 miles within the park.  It is at the officials discretion, based on number of athletes running, whether the girls and boys race together in one race or in two separate races.  This is unknown until race time. (A note about parking: Please park in the Bancroft/Hopkins Pond lots.  The small lot at he course fills up, and it will be blocked off for parking shortly after 4:00, since the high school and middle school race course runs along the lot entrance.)

 

Uniforms - Shirts will be available to purchase online for $11 during August - from 8/7 through 8/27.  To allow for shirts to arrive in time for the first meet, the order is being placed prior to the season. If you miss the order deadline, coaches may have extras available in limited sizing (mostly youth XL and adult S) or the student may wear any black shirt of their choice during races.  Please see the link below.  The team uniform is the short sleeve black top and the other items are optional.

Running/Clothing: Wear supportive running shoes to prevent injuries. Bring extra sweats to keep warm in the later part of the season. Bring a labeled or identifiable water bottle to all practices and meets.
 

Practice/ Meet Cancellations: In the event of rain or inclement weather, cancelations will  be announced to the students before the end of the school day.  This will occur over the HMS school announcements.  Cancelations and/or changes in scheduling will also be posted on twitter (@HMSTrackXC) and Remind text messaging system.

  • October 1st Pennypacker Park (Sterling, HHeights, Collingswood, Pine Hill, Audubon) 4:45
  • October 15th Pennypacker Park (WD, HHeights, Pausboro, Pine Hill, Audubon, Collingswood) 4:30 (NO HS meet today, so earlier time)
  • October 23rd Colonial Conference Championship Meet  4:15pm (NO HS meet today, so earlier time)

Attendance: We understand that the students may be involved in other activities that may conflict with the cross country schedule. We hope the students are able to attend practices/meets regularly but understand when this is not possible. The athletes can notify coaches at practice when conflicts are expected for the season.

Uniform/Gear Sale

THE UNIFORM STORE IS NOW CLOSED.  If you miss the order window, check with the coaches on extra shirt availability.  We have a number of extra shirts in adult small to sell.  If you choose to purchase a size small shirt after the sale ends, coaches will accept checks only: $11 made out to HMHS Track and Field Booster Club.

 

This year we will again be offering our team uniforms for purchase through an online store!  By popular demand, the store will also be offering long sleeve tops and personalized bags!

The store will be open from 8/12-8/26 ONLY. The HMS coaches will distribute orders when they arrive in mid-September. All orders arrive from the company to the middle school pre-packaged for the student.  We hope to have them before the first meet, but the turnaround time will be tight, so we expect them by at least the second meet of the season.
