Rich Henderson.

Head Crew Coach

Biography:

Coach Henderson joined the Haddonfield coaching staff during the COVID-interrupted Spring of 2020. He took over as Head Coach in September of 2020 while still battling COVID restrictions, but was excited to be able to get athletes on the water despite not having the chance to race. He is very excited to finally have the chance to race this spring and looks forward to the opportunity to compete and grow the program in the coming years.

Prior to Haddonfield, Coach Henderson was with the Moorestown Rowing Club for nine years, serving as their Program Director for six of those years. He is proud to have coached many great athletes who medaled five times at Stotesbury (two golds,) twelve times at the Philadelphia City Championship (one gold,) and fifteen times at the Garden State Championships (five golds.) He had thirty-nine boats qualify for the SRAA National Championships with nine of them making the finals and one medalist. He also sent six boats to USRowing Youth Nationals, with four making finals. Sixty-eight of his rowers went on to row in college, including eight to the Ivy League and all but a handful to major Division I universities.

Growing up as a competitive swimmer, Coach Henderson didn’t take up rowing until arriving on campus at Clemson University. While rowing for Clemson he medaled at SIRA's, Clemson Sprints, and the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Regatta.

Coach Henderson teaches special education at Camden Catholic High School and lives just down the road from Haddonfield in Audubon with his wife Rachel, who was also a collegiate rower. In fact, they met while coaching together for Moorestown in 2008. They have three beautiful children - Gabriel, Lucy, and Cecilia, and (aptly enough,) an English Bulldog named Stella. While not on the river coaching and cheering on Haddonfield, the family can probably be found watching their children playing soccer and lacrosse, swimming, dancing, and cheering competitively. On rare occasions, they find time to escape and relax in Cape May.
