Colonial Conference boys

soccer honors, 2015

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: After missing most of his junior season with a hip injury, Matt Fellcame into his senior year at Haddonfieldlooking to show that he didn't miss a beat. That's exactly what happened.

With the benefit of one of the deepest offenses, the speedy forward led the Colonial Conference with 21 goals.

"I think Matt certainly possesses some qualities that I don't think you can teach," Haddonfield coach Ryan Nixon said. "Matt's speed was certainly an asset, especially his speed with the ball."

Fell, however, isn't just fast. The senior forward plays with a sense of confidence that does not leave him shying away from taking on defenders.

Following the serious hip injury, Fell picked up right where he left off at the top of Haddonfield's offense. As a sophomore he potted five goals and dished out two assists.

"I certainly expected him to be dominant this year," Nixon added. "I felt that if Matt stayed healthy that he was going to be the player that we really expected him to be... He had a lot really good talent around him. He is the kid who does one thing really, really well and that's score goals."

TEAM OF THE YEAR: Matt Fell was not the lone focal point of Haddonfield and he was aided by a very strong group that saw 15 different players tickle twine.

Highlighting a 18-2-1 season was the emergence of sophomore Jack Dugan. The forward was a do-it-all type of player that Nixon could rely on in any situation. Dugan finished the year with 16 goals and 13 assists.

"It's hard to describe because I've been around this game for a long time as a player and as a coach," Nixon said. "As I player I've played with some really good players. I played at Haddonfield during an era when we won two state titles. I played in college so I played with and against some very, very good players and I'd certainly put Jack up there with any of them. He might be the most talented kid I've seen. He just does everything really, really well."

Dugan was accompanied by his older brother Wyatt, a senior, who patrolled the midfield. The older Dugan finished his career off with 12 goals and 13 assists in his final season.

Another sophomore Sam DeCencio stepped up big time for Haddonfield finishing the year with seven goals and eight assists up top.

"Sam is incredible too," Nixon said. "Sam and Jack both play on the same club team at Match Fit Academy out of the Princeton area. Sam is as slick as you're going to find. He can play with both feet. Some of the stuff he does with the ball is unbelievable. He scored a goal against Collingswood this year that was mind boggling. He literally beat five or six defenders then dribbled the keeper and tapped it in. It was pretty incredible."

While its offense averaged nearly four goals per game, Haddonfield's defense was its rock. The Bulldogs allowed just eight goals all season headed by seniors Cole Fabbri and Richie Bond. In the cage Jonathan Baxter was as good as ever making 98 saves and posting 14 shutouts.

The main reason we had so much success this year, while we were really good offensively, defensively this was one of the best teams we've ever had too," Nixon said.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Jason Snyder of Lindenwold is the kind of coach that is able to get the best out of his players and that should during the 2015 season.

The Lions battled their way through the South Jersey, Group 1 Tournament before falling to Schalick in the sectional final 2-1 in overtime.

The 14-6-2 season came just a year after Lindenwold went 8-9-2 and was bounced after in the first round of states. This year's trip to the sectional final was the first time that the Lions made it out of the first round of the state tournament in over five years.

Oumar Sylla led Lindenwold with 20 goals and 17 assists, while Jesus Cardenasalso scored 20 goals. Enmanuel Ortega made 100 saves and posted four shutouts.
